"Tanya Jane Simmonds is a former criminal defense lawyer, who lives in rural Central England with her partner.
Her career as an erotic novelist began in 2004, when, after booking a male stripper for her friend’s hen night, her life was changed forever. Her first attempt at writing erotica was Oral or Manual? – A True Story, her account of what happened on that occasion.
Oral or Manual? attracted the attention of many members of the BDSM community, a reaction which, to this day, continues to bewilder Tanya.
Following copious requests to write BDSM stories, she finally relented and made her first attempt, basing her concept on a particularly nasty torture she'd had some experience vehemently opposing. Tanya's now-partner was subjected to the doctrine of masturbation prohibition at the age of 16 at the hands of a Pentacostal cult, to devastating results. This led to her ongoing battle with religion. She also holds a B(th)(hons) degree in Theology.
Her first BDSM tale, written in 2005, was a short story set in the Victorian era called The Sinners. She initially abandoned it favor of resetting the idea in the 1950s with The Paramount Rule (2006.) The BDSM community went wild for it (see Tanya’s Testimonials page.) This led to three short follow ups, and two futuristic short stories, Reformation: 2127, and Reformation: 2128 in 2007.
With unanimous praise, and a growing fan base, Tanya took the next step by attempting to go commercial. She extended and re-developed her three-part short story, The Paramount Rule, into a full-length novel. Her hard-core spin-off short story, Paramount Rule – The Gaol, went through two further developmental stages: firstly, an ultra-cruel, horror-erotica novel entitled Paramount Rule II – The Governess of the Gaol, and then the much more publisher-friendly version, The Gaol: The Paramount Rule – Book II.
Reformation: 2127, and Reformation: 2128 were developed into Torn and One Last Time, the first two story arcs in Tanya’s sci-fi anthology, Reformation: The Paramount Rule – Book III.
In 2008, The Paramount Rule Trilogy was accepted for publication by Chimera Publishing, and the first installment hit the UK bookshelves in 2009. However, almost immediately, the company went into liquidation. Similarly, Virgin’s long-running BDSM book imprint, Nexus, also folded. The options for finding publishers for BDSM literature seemed to be diminishing.
Tanya soon discovered that no other publishers wanted to take on her trilogy. She was a relatively-unknown author, and sequel sales are largely dependent upon the success of their predecessors. As such, and with a heavy heart, Tanya had no choice but to re-edit The Paramount Rule Trilogy into three unconnected stand-alone novels – The Paramount Rule, Prisoners of the Governess, and Reformation.
Reformation was the first to be snapped up. Silver Moon Publishing were eager to take it on, but were wary of the original ending, and of the appearance of Tanya’s totalitarian monster – The Penis Guillotine. She first discovered this fetish in 2006, and learned of how huge the castration and penectomy following was. Although initially disturbed and shaken by the idea, she realized that applying this to a judicial ‘public sentence’ scenario would create the perfect sexual expression of absolute femdom tyranny – but with a totally unique twist. What if such horrific destruction could be reversed? However, regardless of Tanya’s well-meaning intentions, The Penis Guillotine had to go, in favor of the futuristic, impossible-to-emulate 'Nullifier.’ Additionally, her original, highly-emotional, and genre-controversial ending, Maelstrom was replaced with the two-part femdom BDSM-fest, Femara.
Pink Flamingo Publications in Michigan snapped up Prisoners of the Governess in 2010, and the 2nd edition of The Paramount Rule in 2011.
Also in 2011, new UK publisher, Femdom Cave, approached Tanya with an invitation to write stories for them. After some discussion, they agreed upon developing her original ending of Reformation, Maelstrom, into a new novel – Reformation: Stronghold. Undeterred by social paranoia, they were also happy to see the return to the Reformation universe of the Penis Guillotine. Reformation: Stronghold became a story that was made up of everything that scared the hell out of the majority of other publishers.
Now with a transatlantic following, Tanya felt her ‘femdom’ imagination was exhausted. But then she discovered a chilling truth. Her foundation gimmick, the prohibition of masturbation, was an actual reality. It is technically an offense for prisoners to masturbate in almost all US prisons. This prompted her to attempt introducing an entirely new sub-genre – the Femdom Thriller. Despite being a risky proposition, she created an intense, plot-based novel entitled The Penitentiary, published by Pink Flamingo in 2012.
Once the figures were in, it was revealed that Tanya’s most popular novel was, by a margin, her first – The Paramount Rule. This presented one final reason for her to dig into the darkest recesses of her imagination to create a farewell novel for her readers. After six months of tireless, disciplined effort, she produced her swansong – Under the Paramount Rule: Tales of Oakpark Grange, which brought the story of her legendary protagonist, Selina Paris, to a definitive conclusion. The novel was released by Pink Flamingo on December 7th, 2012.

Pink Flamingo Publications closed shop in 2016, and the rights to all of Tanya's novels returned to her. Armed with knowledge of marketing and publishing she'd learned during her writing career, she set about re-editing her novels to create the ultimate editions - as she originally wrote them. The Paramount Rule Trilogy was to be finally unleashed after almost a decade in limbo, along with Under the Paramount Rule: Tales of Oakpark Grange (The Trilogy Edition), and The Penitentiary reissue.
The first of the new line, The Paramount Rule - Book I was released on Amazon on October 12th, 2017.
Despite the subject matter she is known for writing about, nothing angers Tanya more than oppressors, bullies, and all types of abusers. Her actual viewpoint is that to deny another human being the right to his or her own body is as far as Orwellian tyranny can extend, a fact to which certain members of the religious community and the US Judiciary tend to turn a blind eye. Her approach to femdom is unique, and often turns the concept on its head in a way that has never been attempted before. Deeply committed to love and compassion, she accepts that what people fantasize about and who they really are, are worlds apart. She has written what she has written for the enjoyment of those who came to her in the beginning, and for new readers who may continue to use her works as an aid to their own private gratification. It is her hope that people derive great pleasure, and learn from her novels as she moves on with her life, having left behind an indelible mark upon a community about which she once knew absolutely nothing."
(I would like to thank, from the bottom of my heart, my dear friend and correspondent, who wishes to remain anonymous, but who crafted this amazing account of my journey into the world of BDSM erotica. There can be no greater compliment for any artiste, than for another to have taken the time to write such a comprehensive example of their commitment to the love another's work. And for the record - I do not, in any way, consider myself a 'legend.')
